04Apr By insadminApril 19, 2018Educational Pre-Vocational Training Program Insan’s pre-vocational training program or otherwise called basic literacy and numeracy program (PVT/BLN) is a transitional education system established to answer the needs of refugee and migrant children who are not ready academically or psychologically to be enrolled in a regular school in Lebanon. The reason behind this might be related to the differences in the curriculum in the country of origin and Lebanon, lack of knowledge of core languages of instruction in Lebanon, racism, discrimination, poverty etc. Insan also offers basic literacy and numeracy classes to young girls and women who haven’t had the possibility to obtain any reading or writing skills at an early age. The classes help to protect and empower them and also allow them to provide more educational support to their children. Vocational Training Program Insan’s vocational training program (VT) in cooking and pastry is offered to its pre-vocational training program (PVT) graduates as a continuation of their studies as well as to other interested candidates who already have basic literacy and numeracy skills. The activity is mainly offered to youth and young women to facilitate their access the labour market. The course teaches students to read recipes and prepare various Lebanese and international dishes, the technical names and usage of kitchen tools and equipment as well as food safety and hygiene. In addition to the technical training in the kitchen, all VT students are also offered soft skills sessions (in group) on how to write their CV, where and how to search for a job etc. In 2023, Insan will also start offering one-on-one job counselling sessions to all VT students in order to provide them with more in-depth assistance for finding a job and the best students will receive a small grant to start their own business. Other Educational Activities Insan believes that in addition to academic skills it is also important to develop the creative side of its beneficiaries. Therefore, Insan also offers various recreational activities to both children and adults. These activities include arts and crafts classes and celebration of occasions with good food, games, dance and singing. Through playing and having fun the artistic and physical activities at Insan School help students to also practice what they learned in the classes and store it more effectively in their memory. 2021 in numbers: 129 children, youth and women benefitted from educational activities 141 children and adults benefitted from recreational activities
